    Win 7 7048 x64 media player Crashes

Well, I've installed Windows 7 7048 on two different machines and both of them are crashing when I open up media player.

Faulting application name: wmplayer.exe, version: 12.0.7048.7000, time stamp: 0x499e5537
Faulting module name: mf.dll, version: 12.0.7048.7000, time stamp: 0x499e6252

After I debugged it in Visual Studio it turns out it's an unhandled division by zero...

Nope, mine's running fine. Both 32 and 64 bit WMP. Did you upgrade install or clean install? Have you ran SFC yet?

I clean installed on both of them. The issue didn't arrise until I added my music to my music library. I guess it's possible one of my songs is causing the issue. I didn't have any issues until 7048 tho with the same libraries. I also didn't have any issues with media player in 7000 or with 7022. I'm not totally sure, but Microsoft has gotten like 100 reports from me today on it:)

I had the same issue, after watching what letters it was crashing at I was able to locate the folder that was causing it to crash.....for me it appears it be my Fatboy Slim =( my guess is that it's a some kind of odd character in the Tag that is causing it to crash. Still looking into it

I have had the same crashes. Quite disappointing!
Deleting the library does not help.

Owngasm, how did you work out which folder it was erroring on?

No crashes here either in W7 64bit

in addition, it works well playing all sorts of formats using Shark007's W7 codecs....

I spent a couple of hours watching a Japanese Anime series Claymore that is compressed in MKV format - ho issues at all. Even was able to use my WMC remote control to control the video from across the room.

I have the same problem in 7048 and would also like to know how he determined the offending folder. I've got 100 of these errors in 24 hours, all caused during library update from my server based music folder.

Edit: found the bad file - Braveheart Soundtrack Main title. Interestingly, highlighting that file in the network share folder containing My Music crashes Explorer in 7048/32 on both computers I have now running that build, but doesn't crash Explorer on any of my Vista boxes. I didn't note any problems with this file when I had 7000 installed.

Finding the bad file took some time, since my Music folder is subdivided into categories - in this case, Soundtracks. Updating the library in 7048 Media Player stopped in that folder. Then I pulled the entire folder out and reloaded files until I hit the bad one that caused Media Player to crash.

If you have your music folder arranged more simply - Artist/Album, for example - finding the "bad" file will be easier.

I checked the tags on the errant file and didn't see anything obvious that might have caused it to fail, so it's a mystery, but a corrected one.

    Still crashing in 7057

Yeah, so I just updated to 7057 and it's still crashing, I'm not too worried, I can just use some other media player for now. I'm sure they will fix it before the release.

Yep, the problem is indeed still there in 7057 x64.

I have established that my problem file is not artists folders A - K,
so now I am systematically moving folders back into the music folder and letting WMP update its library one letter of the alphabet at a time.

I'm not sure if it attached my file or not, but I found the "bad" song and I'm going to either upload it here, or upload it and link it here for those of you that are having a hard time believing it's crashing and go ahead and try putting the file in your music library, or even looking at the file in explorer.
