Set up for webcam?

Hi,
My neice will be having a new laptop for Xmas, she is in the UK and I am in the Czech Rep. I would like to find how to use the webcam so my son can chat and see her.
I used to use Windows Messenger, but there does not seem to be this facility anymore and Skype would mean she would have to open an account, so is there a way of being able to use the webcams which does involve too much?

Thanks.

Messenger still has the facility.
When you open the window to talk ,to the left of your profile picture theres a small camera icon, click it.
That should work.
