    Nero BackItUp problems

    Hi All

When I migrated from XP, after rebuilding my machine as most of the components were too old to take W7, I performed a backup using Nero BackItUp on to an external hard drive. Now when I come to resore my drive on any of the files from the backup, Nero comes back with an error stating that it cannot restore on the same partition as the operating system. I have attached the file I sent to Nero. Not had any response as yet, so any takers. Is it just a case of creating another partition on my HDD ?

Hello Peter, Welcome to the best Windows forum out there!

Let me guess: you did a full backup with Nero, and not just specific files and folders? If so, then you cannot just restore it to your new machine.

Is the old HD still intact, or did you install Windows 7 on top of it? If it is still untouched, it might be easier to just plug in the old drive to the new system and transfer the data manually.
If you installed on top of it, try using reocvery software to recover the deleted files, provided you did not format the drive. I suggest Recuva.

    Hope this helps,

    Hi Jonathan

    Thanks for the greetings

It was a full backup and I replace the HD so I still have the old one. As I have had no joy from Nero I might just follow your suggestion and put the old drive back again.

    Q. Will W7 recognise the HD and assign a drive letter to it as it would a flash drive ?

It should. If it doesn't, that's a problem.
