    Are you using the latest version of the Norton Protection Software? Make sure it is up to date.

    You can always disable the warnings in the Action Centre by doing the following;

    1. Click on the Orb, and type in Action Centre in the search pane.
    2. Click on the Action Pane program.
    3. When Action Centre is opened, click Change Action Centre settings.
    4. Under the Security messages section, un-tick Virus Protection.
    5. Click OK.
    6. That's it!

    Hope this helps.

    Norton has always been considered bloatware by tech enthusiasts.

    Have you considered Avast free home version? I've put it on over a hundred machines without a single issue or virus.

    It's a much lighter load.

    You can uninstall Norton first in Control Panel>Programs and Features.

    Microsoft Security Essentials is also a fine, lightweight choice.

    Everyone will have a different opinion of what is the best Anti Virus, but if I were looking for another, I would start with MSE (Essentials). I have heard nothing but good things about is and it is made specifically with Windows in mind, and its free. When your subscription is up, maybe, you should look into it.

    I have a one month old HP Touchsmart 300 PC and Norton came pre-installed , free for two months . I want to uninstall it and go with MSE or AVG . Some folks are saying it's a pain in the butt to remove Norton 100% . Should I have any trouble uninstalling using the control panel and remove programs ? Thanks from an American in Japan :)

    You are very astute, Anti Virus is very hard to remove and if you do not get it all, remnants remain, which can cause problems. If you go to the Symantec site, they have a removal tool, if you use that you should not have a problem. Afterwards you may want to use the free cc cleaner, as an added precaution, but I do not think that is necessary. Wish you the best, take care.

    I usually install comodo on computers I fix for my friends.. it's a free integrated antivirus, anti-spyware and firewall that seems to work better than any of the crap that symantec has generated in the past 6 years.
