Can I install XP softwares on windows7

Hi,
I just want to know is there any problem in installing software's on Windows7 that are actually designed for windows XP.
Like Firefox, VLC, and many other softwares at download.com.

Actually softwares are getting installed.

Is the windows xp and windows7 same inside.
I am having windows7 ultimate on my laptop.

asking this Just for information.

It depends on the software. Most software that installs on XP will install on Windows 7 also, though there are a few incompatible programs. Some programs will require running in compatibility mode. With Ultimate, it is also possible to use XP Mode, if you hardware supports it...although I don't know how useful that would be on a laptop.

First just try to install under Win 7 then test it. If it does not work then right click on the program->properties->compatibility and set it to run in compatibility mode for XP. I found most programs will work with Win 7 without any problem. If all fails then run it in XP mode (virtual XP came with windows 7 ultimate, it is very easy to set up and run fast too).
