    Id highly recomend teamviwer.
    TeamViewer Download

You download the Full version and they download the quick support version just underneath.
The quick version only allows some one with the full version(you) to access there computer (with the ID and Passwrod of course) and once it closes it leaves nothing behind except the .exe file and (i think) a log.
Neither of which will be easily available, they will have to be looked for.

    Welcome!

Have you considered the built-in Remote Desktop client?

If you would like a third-party alternative, Teamviewer is a great one.

If you want a program that does not need to be downloaded, use the built-in Remote Desktop.

When making a decision on what software to use for this purpose you have to consider the version (SKU) of windows 7 you are running.

Although it is possible to initiate a connection from any version of win7 only professional or enterprise/ultimate can accept a connection.

for this reason I would recommend a third party solution such as Teamviewer or ultraVNC in a mixed set of clients that may include home versions.

As an alternative you should be able to use the Remote Assistance feature built into all win 7 versions

    Welcome to SF!

Even if you had Windows 7 Home, you could still connect to your XP Pro machine. If you buy 7 Pro, you will be able to connect from XP.

What do you mean by access the 7 hard drive? If you connect remotely to the machine, you will have full access to the drive, just as if you were sitting at the 7 machine.

    Hope that answers your questions.

Using remote desktop you can use files on a computer as though you're sitting there. But you can't transfer files to or from that computer. Clicking on 'start' 'run' then entering the IP address (or name) of the remote computer with "\c$" I can access the hard drive to install or copy files. Is this 'dos' capability available in Windows 7 Pro?

    Does that make sense?

    Thanks,
