Actual I cannot see any advantage in the paid for ie what iris real time?? the other features you can do manualy or whatever with Windows, Macrium, drive testers etc etc.
Except recover accidentally deleted files? But maybe there's a way I don't know about (which wouldn't be surprising):)
Windows already has that built in, it's called previous versions.

If you haven't seen this site pxfragongard mate it is full of free software I use it all the time look at these
Best Free Data Recovery and File Un-delete Utility

There are lists of security scanners, rootkits scanners in fact a ton of stuff too much to take in
The Recuva mentioned in that list I linked I have used many times - works real good

Thanks very much. I think I'll use the built-in Windows app for it first... trying to keep the machine lean. Cheers.

No probs mate the Recuva is pretty light weight and you could run it from a stick and then delete it.
Now if you want to recover from dead or very near dead drives I use a Ubuntu bootable OS and open up the drive/s to get at data but recently came across this Imaging with free Macrium see the link in post #1150 I am going over to it when I get a chance.:)
