The "Firefox Corrupt SQLites" and "Compact Databases" settings can slow things down.

    SQLite Database

Well I never new that. I do leave those settings checked in Ccleaner but I aslo tend to run SpeedyFox every few days so I guess that takes care of the problem before Ccleaner gets a chance.

Note: I use Cyberfox but add the profile to the window so it gets cleaned.

For Firefox variants just drag and drop the profile folder into the window - the setting will be remembered.

    From the website:

The optimization process can take anywhere from 5 minutes to an hour depending on how large your databases are. The whole optimization process is safe as it does not effect your history, bookmarks, passwords, etc.

One thing I have found that slows down Ccleaner immensely is cleaning the Internet Cache in Firefox, the more entries there are the longer it takes.

    These entries can be found at: C:/ Users / Your User Name / AppData / Local / Mozilla /Firefox / Profiles / p6un7bml.default / cache2 / entries

Note 1: You must have "Show Hidden Folders, Files, and Drives enabled in Folder Options to see the above folder.

Note 2: The letters & numbers of the folder p6un7bml.default may be different on your machine)

As of now I have 5,856 entries in this folder and it took Ccleaner approx 2 mins & 20 secs to clean / delete every 1000 entries of this folder.

    FF cache & Ccleaner

The thing is that I keep that cache disabled. I use Cyberfox - a Firefox variant and those files are only cached to RAM. Maybe for some users there would be performance issues using this method but for me the browser remains fast. Note: I also use a RAMdisk so that probably helps.

    Ccleaner installation

Look I think something odd id going on in the machine as those cookies have not ben saved. I might just uninstall CCleaner and try that new link as the Analayse button is still not a dark blue when I open it.

I saved the ini stuff to desktop in any case but there are only a few cookies that I think will be saved.
Re: Ccleaner - installing new version straight over the top of the old version.

Okay so the Slim Build has been released and I've updated.

Method of updating - download installer and run it without removing the old version of Cccleaner.

Files that were present before installation of the new version:

After installation those files are not overwritten and contents are exactly the same. Note that there's no new winapp.ini file either. It doesn't exist. So Ccleaner's installer must have checked for:

    winapp.ini and winapp2.ini

then made a decision to keep the existing winapp2.ini file (trimmed)

If you see differences in those files before and after updating especially if using auto updates (I never use auto update) then it could explain the cookie problem. Also I notice that when the installer runs - under advanced options there's the option to select to install "intelligent cookie scan" and I suppose if it's not checked then that's another possible reason why cookies are removed.

    My setup is different ...

My setup is different to most if not all other people's setups.

I have literally thousands of Bookmarks, in multiple profiles.
I haven't cleaned up my Browsing History for many years (if ever).

I'm actually using Pale Moon, but I'm using the same system that I used with Firefox.

I run PM using a script which allows me to choose which profile I want to use.
When I close PM, it is supposed to use its built-in cleaner to clean up the cache and some other stuff
After I acknowledge a dialogue box, my script runs CCleaner and then returns me to the profile choices menu.

I suspect that the database cleaning settings should only cause a big delay if you've never run them previously, or if something weird has happened to your profile.

Are you running the recently added Monitor function?
    Perhaps it is causing problems.

    I have it disabled.

@Callender, Thanks for your tip in post #904 regarding the Firefox cache, I have now set the limit to 0 MB so Ccleaner should work much faster now.
