    That doesnt sound very windows-like
I guess. :) Started with mIRC, then VirtualIRC and AdiIRC after that. IRC is just lines of text, no need for any fancy bells and whistles. With Irssi you don't need bouncers, logs etc, you can connect from anywhere, with your cell for example, and continue where you left. Handy. Putty only takes 2-3MB unlike mIRC etc bloatcraps.

    Doesnt it look pretty? :P

But those bells and whistles are fun to play and explore with when channels go "dead!", and no one is chatting or everyone is PM.

    Re Microsoft Hotfixes and mIRC

Microsoft's disclaimers were written by their legal department. They not concerned about the safety of using a microsoft product - they are simply trying to cover their arse!

The microsoft Hotfix for MsAgent is (by personal experience) trustworthy. Consider this - MsAgent was a part of ALL prior windows operating systems!

However - rest assured - mIRC is (according to Kahled) due for an update that WILL be compatible with Windows 7 :)

Thank you OriginalNiceGuy for helping me understand. I already installed xChat, but prefer mIRC and will certainly switch back when Kahled's newest updated version becomes available.

I'm trying out nettalk and it's pretty nice so far. It's certainly got a much cleaner UI than icechat and is more modern and less technical than mirc.

    Nettalk - www.ntalk.de - IRC-Chatclient

The pidgin irc client isn't bad either. I tend to use it when on Linux:
