Folder encryption software Basically I want a programme that can put a password on a folder or file and the ony change I want it to make to said file or folder is to prompt for a password when opening, I want it to work as normal.
Ive tried 4 or so free ones and they encrypt and ask to create a password but then changes the extension to open in the programme that created it, what good is that?, I just go in circles!
Any easy to use, straight forward progs? | My System Specs |

Try this. It's shareware: Folder Lock - File Lock and File Encryption Software Free Download
I didn't want to recommend Truecrypt based on what you said, and Bitlocker is not an option for you either since you're on Home Premium. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit CPU AMD Phenom II X4 3.0GHz Motherboard ASUS M5A97 Memory 8GB G-Skill Ripjaws DDR3 1333 Graphics Card PNY GeForce 460 GTX 1GB OC - Enthusiast Edition Sound Card VIA High Definition Audio Monitor(s) Displays Dell 19" Screen Resolution 1280x1024 Keyboard Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 2000 Mouse Microsoft Wireless Mouse 2000 PSU OCZ Fata1ty 700W Modular PSU Case ASUS Hard Drives 1TB - Primary

LockHunter should tell you what's using the file. Either it's in use or you need to unlock the folder to move it. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit CPU AMD Phenom II X4 3.0GHz Motherboard ASUS M5A97 Memory 8GB G-Skill Ripjaws DDR3 1333 Graphics Card PNY GeForce 460 GTX 1GB OC - Enthusiast Edition Sound Card VIA High Definition Audio Monitor(s) Displays Dell 19" Screen Resolution 1280x1024 Keyboard Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 2000 Mouse Microsoft Wireless Mouse 2000 PSU OCZ Fata1ty 700W Modular PSU Case ASUS Hard Drives 1TB - Primary

This one is supposedly free and works on 7. Only catch is it hides folders: Free Hide Folder: a free security software to hide folders. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit CPU AMD Phenom II X4 3.0GHz Motherboard ASUS M5A97 Memory 8GB G-Skill Ripjaws DDR3 1333 Graphics Card PNY GeForce 460 GTX 1GB OC - Enthusiast Edition Sound Card VIA High Definition Audio Monitor(s) Displays Dell 19" Screen Resolution 1280x1024 Keyboard Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 2000 Mouse Microsoft Wireless Mouse 2000 PSU OCZ Fata1ty 700W Modular PSU Case ASUS Hard Drives 1TB - Primary

do you want to create an encrypted folder/or drive so you can save unencrypted files or you want to encrypt the files themselves for security?
if it is the later i am currently using challenger.

for me my friend, i think it defeats the purpose of hiding something if you are putting it in plain sight. even if it is encrypted. challenger application can be put in a desktop as an application. would ask for a password/keypass and you can access/decrypt all your fave encrypted folders wherever they are hiding in the computer. it all depends on how you wanna use the application i think. i'll try to ask my friend if have a free software in mind that would meet your needs. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Lenovo G450 OS Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit (6.1, Build 7600) CPU Pentium R (Dual Core) T4300 2.1GHz Memory 2GB DDR3 SDRAM Graphics Card Intel GMA X4500 Hard Drives 320GB IDE HDD Folder encryption software problems?
