I can't download BBC iPlayer Desktop

I am trying to download BBC iPlayer desktop in th UK. If I click the install button I get something like a revolving barber's pole and nothing else happens. I have Windows 7 Pro 64 Bit but I use IE8 32 Bit.

I didn't have a problem with my XP Computer using IE8 and I have posted on the BBC help forum. I have turned off NIS and that didn't help and it has been suggested that something is blocking the download, but what?

Yesterday I downloaded Windows Live Photo Gallery and there wasn't a problem there. When I click install for BBC iPlayer Desktop there isn't any traffic through my router.

    Any thoughts please?

Thank you Pebbly. IE 8 64 Bit will not let me download because I do not have Flashplayer installed on IE8 64 Bit and my understanding is that there is no Flashplayer 64 Bit. That is why I use IE8 32 Bit on a 64 Bit OS. This is a known problem and I understand that Adobe will release a 64 Bit Flahplayer in due course.

It is very odd becuase I didn't have a problem with XP and IE8 32 Bit.

Could be blocked in your router, by the firewall, and by NIS (even if it turned off). what is the link to it?

judesman , when you try to download the iplayer ,do you get a flashing icon on the taskbar, if you do not click on the icon ( a download confirmation) all you will see is the "barbers pole" :)

Hello Ken Here is the link to BBC iPlayer Desktop:

    BBC iPlayer - Install

I wouldn't know how to turn off the firewall in my router but this did not cause a problem with XP when I used the same router.

Pebbly: There is no flashing icon on the taskbar.

Severedsolo: I rely on the firewall in NIS 2010 and I have turned NIS off but that doesn't help. Adobe Air installs as part of the download but I don't even get that far. Basically nothing happens.

    Thanks all.

    Judesman.

Do you already have Adobe Air installed? It does say it will download and install it but try installing it first and see if that helps.

judesman, do you have taskbar notifications unchecked ,if you have minimise the main window and see if the downloadload confirmation window is behind the main window :)
