Windows 7 - Front Page replacement

Front Page replacement

Maybe ten or twelve years ago I decided I wanted to have a website on which I could share pictures, keep a journal of projects, and generally bore everyone but my mother, who was probably just being nice.
Options were limited back then, my knowledge of what was available even more so. I needed something simple to use, and still do.
I bought a copy of Front Page 98 and registered a domain name (Mark and William's Home Place). I've been adding to it ever since, through several isp's, three webhosts, four or five computers, and now I'm on my third operating system.
That's a problem.
For years MS wanted me to get a newer version of FP. I never bothered because I don't even know how to use all the stuff FP 98 has; why add features I'll never use? ("The more functions a program has the harder it is to get it to perform any one of them.") Now it seems like it would be just stalling to get a newer version even if it would work with Win 7.
I know MS has new web programs available, and I don't mind buying software, but I can't find on their shopping pages any of the information I really need.
For instance:
If I've built a site using Front Page extensions will the new program be able to download it onto my computer so that I can continue to edit it? Several times over the years I've suffered computer catastrophes and have had to recover the webstuff from the host; a pain, but possible. I've still got the corpse of the old computer and could conceivably get it to run long enough the get the files off of it but that would be a "Where do I start?" sort of thing, too.
If MS says a program is for "web development professionals" doesn't that mean I won't even be able to turn it on? I may not have been clear about this; I'm not one and have no plan or hope in that direction. And while I'm not senile just yet, there's a clear trend...
Anyway, I'm open to suggestions.
Thanks, Wm

I doubt it. I don't know about FrontPage 98, but FrontPage 2003 supports extensions and is fully compatible with Windows 7. Developer files can be downloaded from the host server, edited, then republished to the host server.

See if you can get your hands on a used copy of FrontPage 2003 (a big improvement over the 98, 2000 & 2002 versions); it does not require registration.

I know I said I didn't mind buying software, but I just shopped around for FP 2003. $200+ for a used copy of obsolete software?!
On the other hand, if I go with Expressions it looks like I have to abandon ten years accumulated work.
Would it be that I would be able to add pages to the site and just not be able to make changes to the ones that are already there? Does Expressions have an equivalent of "Publish Changed Pages Only" that would one day not recognize and so erase the fifty or sixty pages of photos and captions. Some of those old photos are film camera to developer to scuzzy scanner, shrunk for dial-up, and erased to save space on the 650 MB hard drive. Can you have an heirloom website? Can I find the shoeboxes?
I need counseling.
Thanks, y'all. I'm puzzling on it.

As far as I know, Expressions does not support extensions. Otherwise it shares commonalities with FrontPage.

It turns out Expressions 3 does work with websites built with Front Page. I've bought it (for less than half what Amazon had a new copy of FP 2003) and will soon know enough to really screw things up. I've already downloaded my site into Expressions and made a small edit just to see would it work. I already miss having a full page view in the editor. Just a setting somewhere....
Thanks again, y'all.
