Dinesh, I did it but unfortunately it didn't work.

Could you tell me how to get my apps and contacts back please?

    Thanks

Glad to hear it. Is the iPhone sync issue still persisting, though?

    Thanks for asking Walker.

Yes I got it sorted. It was actually a problem with authorizing my new laptop with the iPhone to allow it to sync that was the problem.

The thing is, without restoring it I wouldn't have been given the option to authorize it so it all worked out in the end.

    Thanks again.

Certainly, I'm glad it all worked out. iPhone owner here too, I know the feeling when it doesn't work quite as expected I'll flag this thread to be marked 'Solved'. Let us know if you need anything else.

    Cheers,

A stupid but effective fix for this issue

I have discovered completely by accident that if I connect my iPhone before I turn on the computer and let it run all the way through startup iTunes starts and immediately recognizes the device and syncs. I have tested connecting the phone this way several times just to verify what I was finding and it worked every time. It still won't sync AND it still freezes iTunes if I try to connect once the computer is started.

This definitely is not a true fix but it will get you going.
