Outlook 2010 and 2007 on same computer?

    Hello,

I would like to know if I can run Outook 2010 in 1 user account, Outlook 2007 in another, and both access the same OUTLOOK.PST file?

I have Outlook 2010 (beta of course), but there is a planning software I want to try that only works with Outlook 2007. I am really happy with the way I have 2010 set up, so I would like to know if I can (at different times) run Outlook 2010 in my primary user account, then set up another user account, and install Outlook 2007, then direct it to use the existing PST file? That way, I could alternate between the two, exiting the program each time I switch to the other, so as not to cause file access conflicts. Would this work?

    Thank you for your advice!

    ~Antonio

    Casca,

Thank you for the link to the information. It says that you cannot have both Outlook 2007 and 2010 installed at the same time, but there must be a work-around.

    What about a different partition???

    Any thoughts? Anyone?

    Thanks,

What if...they did not share the PST file? Could you have Outlook 2007 and 2010 installed in separate "areas", be they directories, user accounts, or partitions?

I missed that. Different partition doesn't matter (just a storage location). The reasonable conclusion is that the mail client is too thoroughly integrated into the OS.

    Casca,

Thanks for all your input, and the helpful links. That would have been a very workable solution, but I have just learned that the VM does not recognize the host drives, and sees them as a network drive, so the PST would have to be "networkable" and it most definitely is not. I am just going to look forward, and download the Office 2010 RTM, and forget about the planning software add on that I wanted to use, at least until they come out with a 2010 version.

How to Install Office 2010 And Keep Office 2007 Side by Side Together

    ...
Note that although both Office 2010 and Office 2007 can co-exist, Outlook 2007 and Outlook 2010 apparently not. Only one version of Outlook can be installed at any time. Thus, Outlook 2007 will be uninstalled and leaving only Outlook 2010.
    ...
You can only have ONE install of outlook on a computer.
