    Java for windows 7

Hi, don't know what's wrong. Running windows 7 build 7000 and using firefox and IE version 8 beta. Can't get java to install. ALways turns off during install and then Windows says it is trying to fix the problem, and of course, never does. Can anyone tell me what is wrong here? How do I install it, exactly, and what version should I be using. Really weird for something so basic. Thanks

For starters upgrade or clean install to Build 7100 or 7127.

Then install latest version of java.

    Works fine on mine.

HI, can't. Computers were given to us at school and don't know how to update?

    Thanks. Ideas?

The computer given to you by the school came with pre-installed with Windows 7 build 7000. I am highly skeptical of that.

You can update. You download the RC by googling "Windows 7" and clicking on the first link.

So, how did Windows 7 get on this computer in the first place? I suggest the same method for doing an update. No worries. Build 7000 is going to die soon anyway.

    Bye.

Go to ControlPanel/Java/Advanced?JavaPlugIn. Uncheck "Enable next generation plug-in".

    Restart browser.

    Hi,

Skeptical? Yee of little faith. Computers donated, 24 of them, by a parent of our school who works for microsoft. Probably not going to update myself as we were told to wait for the final version. Still, too many problems as it sits. I'll try the comment by WCTOM. I just don't see anything called Java under control panel in windows. A search for Java shows nothing. Is this done in the browser? If so, where? IE or FIrefox. Appreciate your help. Mac person and learning.

Download here: java.com: Java + You

As your on build 7000, don't forget, your PC will start shutting down on June 1st.

So you will need to install the RC, here:

Yeah, there's really no point in continuing with build 7000, as 7Heaven pointed out, it will start shutting down every two hours starting in 8 days, June 1st. Then you won't be able to use it after August.

You had better tell whoever's in charge of them in your school to install 7100 RC on them all or they'll be useless.
