!!!CCleaner Wipe MFT Time Remaining Increasing-NOT Decreasing!!!

After learning it was a good idea to check Ccleaner's Wipe MFT box I run it. However, rather than show time remaining decreasing it is increasing! What gives?!! Should I cancel? If so, are there files I will need to delete?

    -thx

    MFT Wipe

I always experience the same issue. It could be down to installing some sort of process tamer but on my machine for some reason if I install Java then it works as expected. Without Java - the problem returns.

I've never been able to find anything on the Ccleaner website that mentions that Java is required!

Personally for MFT wipe I use Sdelete:

    SDelete - instructions and download.

I run it a using Run Command shortcut in right click context menu:

    C:\Windows\System32\sdelete -p 1 -z -c C:

Replace the C: at the end of the command if you want to clean a different drive.

Thank you for a most enlightening reply Callender.

After years of use I had to scratch that itch and enable that Wipe MFT box in the cleaner. Although I did get the 'This Will Take A While' warning, I never expected this. The first minute or so it reported 7 minutes remaining so I figured 'no sweat', I can live with that. I go away and return 10 minutes later and it reports +30 minutes remaining and I notice the time stamp slowly increasing ... wtf? I create this post and leave home for 90-120 minutes. Upon return I tap the keyboard and CCleaner is reporting +11 hours remaining (@33%) and time still increasing! OK, no thank you - I hit cancel and, fortunately, it did cleanup after itself (I hope, I did note several GB added to my free space).

    CCleaner cancel wipe

Just ran a quick test. Selected Wipe Free Space on drive D and monitored the drive.

A new folder is created at the root of the drive as the wipe is performed:

Cancelling the wipe deleted the folder and drive space returns to it's pre-wipe level.

Maybe your temporary folder that was created for the wipe didn't get automatically deleted.

As reported above, my free space increased - so I believe that folder was deleted. I don't see one, as per your attachment. Perhaps the added free space was due to other things CCleaner took care of.

Sorry - I misread your post as "space decreased" and started looking for temp folders created by Ccleaner!
