Windows Live Messenger compatibility

    Ok, just to be double sure. Make sure that you are closing the Windows Live Messenger window from the X and not minimize bar as seen below. If you are, then try uninstalling and reinstalling Windows Live Messenger to see if that may help.

    Yes, I do close the window and not minimize it.

    And how do I uninstall Messenger? It's not in the add/remove list

    It's in windows live essentials. Then just choose windows live messenger from the list once it opens and asks you what you want to do.

    You would select the Windows Live Essentials uninstall entry, then it will give you an option to select Windows Live Messenger to uninstall. :)

    Well then, I've uninstalled it, and reinstalled with the new version, now it works!

    .....I just installed Messenger Plus! and now I've gone back to the same issue.....is it Messenger Plus! that's causing the problem now?

    It will not work with Messenger Plus, only with Windows Live Messenger by itself.
