MS works missing after installing Windows 7

I did a custom install of Windows 7, and I'm not sure why Microsoft Works got wiped out when I thought Windows 7 would simply overwrite the pre-loaded software. They're usually in the Startup menu. Although I did backed up Program File x86 (in Windows OLD) I can't find the application of MS Word Processor and MS Powerpoint those are the two software I prefer to have. I still have the old version of MS Word and Powerpoint (2001) and I don't think I'd want to buy the entire office suite from MS if I just want the basic stuff.

Would appreciate some suggestions for a work-around...

    TIA!

Neither MS Works nor MS Office is part of the operating system. They are separate program suites that will have to be reinstalled from the original CDs.

correct. ms works and office are not included with windows 7. u may get them pre installed with oem when u buy a branded computer from a store but when u install your self they are not a standard. u must obtain them and install them after wards

I do have the DVD of Microsoft Works 9 that came with the Dell Computer (pre-loaded with Vista)---would that work? It does have the OEM number on the DVD sleeve. Also, the Belarc Advisor that had a list of my software with OEM license listed with them.
