Are there any 32-bit programs that do not run on 64-bit Win 7?

    Hi,

I'm currently running 32-bit Windows 7, and I'd like to upgrade to the 64-bit version in order to be able to run After Effects CS5. I know that the 64-bit version runs 32-bit programs too, but is it possible that some programs (not drivers) will (or do not) run?
I mean, is it fully compatible with 32-bit programs?

    Thanks in advance.

There are lots of 32 bit apps. that don't run on 64 bit.

Usually they are programs that require drivers - disk management apps. for example - the interesting an useful ones.

Fortunately, many of those now make 64 bit compatible versions. ( with 64 bit drivers )

Depending on your requirements it may not bother you.

That's why so many people dual boot , or run another o/s in a VM - so they can use certain apps. Sometimes that isn't because of the bitness , but because it is won't run properly (or at all ) in 7 , let alone 64 bit.

99% of the time, if the 32 bit version won't run, there is a 64 bit version available. Many system utilities are this way. You just need to grab the appropriate version.

Hi yonyz - Most programs designed for the 32-bit version of Windows will work on the 64-bit version of Windows. However, you may have to update drivers for some one your hardware.

If you have a specific question about certain software or hardware being compatible with Windows 7 64-bit, you can consult the Windows 7 Compatibility Center -Windows 7 Compatibility: Software Programs and Hardware Devices: Find Updates, Drivers, and Downloads.

Some free 32bit programs are only available for a fee in 64bit - example: Revo Uninstaller. One sidebar gadget that I use a lot (AppLauncher), does not run in 64bit either. I also had problems with Gimp2 in both 32 and 64bit. I am sure there are a lot more but I did not notice any others of my arsenal.

Thanks for the info, whs. I was actually using Revo Uninstaller before upgrading to 64-bit, but I decided to stop using due to its slow speed of uninstall (searching for remains and all that).

Understand, but "searching for the remains" is the whole point for using Revo. Btw: Free Revo runs in 64bit and can uninstall programs from the x86 program files, but not from the x64 program files.

Is there any alternative to Revo Uninstaller which is free and supports 64-bit programs?

Edit: Oh hey, check this out: http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/
Today they have Cleanse Uninstaller Pro. I hope it supports 64-bit.
