    7 Font Buggery

    Hello,

Before researching the matter, I installed around 18,000 fonts into the fonts directory in Control Panel. Windows 7 loads slowly and the CPU seems to be working overtime. Microsoft Word will not load, and any attempt to delete/modify fonts results in explorer crashing. If anyone here has suggestions, I'd really appreciate it!

    So far, I have tried:

-Loading the last restore point (24th June, post-font install)
-Deleting the fonts from the root directory windows/fonts
-Deleting the fonts from Control Panel access to directory
-Using the "Restore default font settings" button under font settings in CP
    -Deleting the fonts from registry
-Reinstalling Windows 7 (Even this seems to hang for a long time on a screen with cursor only, no loading hourglass. CPU light appears to be doing nothing. Does not appear a viable option at the moment)

At my wit's end with this thing, thanks ever so much in advance.

    Cheers,

    Mick

    Hi,

Thanks for the welcome, and the swift reply.

Typed that in, reset my desktop wallpaper/theme. Still no change on the fonts.

I should mention, Control Panel lists 0 items in the fonts directory, while fonts directory itself reports... Oh, 32,904 files at 2.27 GB. I know how to reinstall fonts (via reinstalling Microsoft viewer for e.g.) but uninstalling/deleting them is proving exceedingly difficult. Each method freezes explorer like a champ.

I am interested in deleting the fonts I don't need however, and would like to restore Windows 7 default fonts. It is two extra gigs I could be using for something else. Any ideas on how this can be done without reinstalling Windows? Thanks.

You could try going in to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Fonts\Font settings, and restore default font settings to see that helps.

if this can't help..i think you must Repair Install

    Cheers,

As per my first post, I have tried restoring fonts. Clicking the button grays out both "ok" and restore. I have also tried to repair install, but for some reason, it does not fully load the prompts to install Windows. It just stays frozen on a screen with a background. The cursor at first has the loading hourglass, then it just stops. I have tested the disc on my girlfriend's desktop, and it is a good disc.
