Windows 7: System-wide equalizer for Windows 7

Hey guys,

First of all this is my first post here, so don't get angry at me for potentially embarrassing myself. I've been looking for some time now for a system-wide graphic equalizer. Basically I play a lot of internet radio on my laptop, so the WMP EQ won't do. Also, it doesn't work on games and streaming vids etc.



I've been hearing a lot about the Realtek HD Audio Driver, but can I install that with an Intel soundcard (at least I think it's Intel)? I've downloaded and installed it, rebooted, and nothing happened. There's no icon in the bottomright, and if I try to find the driver the device manager I can't find it either. If so, can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong?


Tips and pointers, also good alternatives, leads, everything is welcome.

If your hardware is Intel then that's the only driver you can use. Realtek simply wont work

Thanks for the fast reply. Is there any way to your knowledge that I can equalize my sound, apart from the WMP equalizer? I've been googling for a while now, haven't found anything.

Asking around on 4chan/g/ came up with SRS Audio Sandbox, poster says it does have a bug but it's as good a try as any. I'll post back with results.

you can use plugin for your WMP. something like DFX enhancer

Gonna try this. Don't do the SRS Sandbox thing, it sucks.

Edit: not really what I was looking for but it does make sound a lot better for WMP.

Why can't windows 7 just add an enhancement for a multi-band equalizer? I'd be happy with an 8-band. I know there are realtek drivers that allow for it, but those of us with intel don't really have the option.

I want a system-wide equalizer, not some WMP or winamp one. Until this is added, I plan on using linux for my multimedia.. It may not be making billions, but at least they have devs smart enough to offer an equalizer(something that many have requested many times)

There is a bit of a gap here... Windows 7 users who have a sound card that does not feature an equalizer have very few options for system-wide equalization. It took me the better part of a week, but I finally found DDMF's Virtual Audio Stream. It does a couple of neat things:

• Redirection of the audio stream to other applications such as Audacity for recording.
• Redirection of the audio stream through an effects rack, where you can install any number of VST plug-ins including EQUALIZATION. A great free equalizer is DDMF's EQ2, available on their website.

The only catch so far that I've found is that the effects rack window must be open to function. It would be nice if it could be run hidden or minimized to the system tray.


My Hifi system now sounds substantially better; I was able to correct some pretty uneven responses at the bass end of the spectrum!
