I also had a problem with the QL buttons not working on my HP dv6646 and then when it did start working the orange lights did not work I did the following.

    Here is my Quickluanch Solution:

    1. go to HP Support & Drivers
    2. Enter product number (ex: dv6466)
    3. Choose either/or:
    » Microsoft Windows Vista
    » Microsoft Windows Vista (64-bit)
    4. Find HP Quick Launch Buttons driver updates

*** Notice there should be 2 updates (at least for my PC and my friends)

    5. Download Oldest Driver First
    6. Before Installing Driver , Right Click on it and go to Properties and change compatibility to Windows Vista (SP 2) ... then Install.... Reboot... Test
    7. If this does not fix it or works but the buttons don't light orange Download the newer driver listed on the site listed above. Also before Installing change the compatibility again.

I have tried this on multiple HP's and this is the only way I have seen it work if it does work, it only seemed to work when the older driver was installed first and then the newer last.

Note that this will only fix the Quicklaunch and not the Quickplay ... but quickplay sucks so who cares

    Hi Greeneggsam,

I tried your solution but it did not work for me. My HP model is dv1135ea and the QL button problem still persists. I have sound but the quality is very poor as it is only coming from the sub-woofer and not from the Left and Right speakers. The mute button is constantly in orange color, while others are white. The mute button comes on as white while windows is loading but before windows finishes loading a cracking sound comes from the speaker and the mute button changes to orange and stays that way, even at that it still mutes the sound when you press it.

Do you have any ideas how I can resolve this issue?

Hello Daysey, You should create a new thread for this, mine (this thread) is over 4 months old.

Why are so many old threads being dragged up lately?

    What worked, Shuls?

You said thanks to Yup Yup, and that it worked for you. What exactly worked? I have Win7 x64 and would like to download and install HP Quick Launch Buttons 6.40 H2 for Windows 7, which I uninstalled from my Vista system before upgrading to Windows 7. Were you able to do this? If so, where did you go to download it? Thanks!

    Greetings Roni;
As YupYup suggested, I downloaded the driver from the Microsoft Windows Catalog. It just the driver installation without the application so you won't get the exclamation mark on the Device Manager.

    Hope that it helped,
    Shuls
