iTunes - Cannot Access Registry Key

I am using Windows 7 x64, and my iTunes installation has been corrupted. It was working OK, but now I can longer use the program. Every time I try to run it, I get the following message:

I tried to uninstall iTunes, but I get the exact same message. So, I'm stuck. I can't run the program, and I cannot uninstall the program. I went into regedit to try to change the permissions, but I get a message that indicates I cannot do that. It's like the registry entry is locked, and I can't do anything with it.

Here is a similar post in this forum, but it looks like it was never resolved:

    Any help would be appreciated.

    OK, lets start simple:

Try to restore to a point when iTunes was working

    IF that doesn't work

Start> Type Regedit in the search box> Right click on regedit.exe in the results and choose Run As Administrator

When regedit opens navigate to the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER32\AppEvents\EventLabels\iTunes_Complete

Right click the key and choose Permissions

Click on the Advanced button> Owner tab

The current owner will be listed there

If the current owner isn't you or Administrators> Under Change owner to: select your account name> Select the box Replace Owner on subcontainers and objects

If your name is not listed then select Administrators

Click Apply> OK your way out

Select Permissions and select your name or Administrators> If you don't have full control select Edit> Give yourself full control

    Ok your way out

    Thank you for the response.

When I try to access the path in the registry, I get an access denied error. When I right click on it to change the permissions, I get another access denied error when I try to save the permission changes. When I go to the advanced tab to check the current owner, it indicates that the current owner cannot be displayed. When I try to change the current owner on subcontainers and objects, I get another access denied error.
