Okay, so I filled out the appropriate fields in the system specs area of my profile...maybe that helps? I have the Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. When trying to install iTunes 9, yes, I was downloading and attempting to install the 64-bit version and not the 32-bit.
When you say "Redownload the Installer"...how exactly do I do this? Since iTunes has never been successfully installed on this computer, there is nothing in my Program Files folder, Downloads folder, or in the Add/Remove Programs area. So, I guess I am not sure what is being suggested as I have downloaded iTunes about 8 times...each time, the download completes successfully but it's when I get to the installation process that it comes to the very end and the error message comes up and gives me only one option--to click "Finish", to exit the installer without the program being successfully installed. HTH
