Stop EXPLORER From Loading

How would one change from on login to a certain account changing the startup program from explorer.exe to and application that i have created?
I have tried changing the registry keys, from
HKLM>Software>Microsoft>WindowsNT>WinLogon>Shell(explorer.exe)>Shell()
to
For Terminal Account
HKCU>Software>Microsoft>WindowsNT>WinLogon>Shell(Terminal.exe)
For Personal Account
HKCU>Software>Microsoft>WindowsNT>WinLogon>Shell(explorer.exe)

However, when logiing into the personal account, all it does is bring up an additional instance of explorer.exe (My Computer) and never loads the start bar or desktop.
Does anyone else have any suggestions?
I would like to do this without any third party applications.
Thanks
~Matt
