Here's a bunch of rather specialized, but really neat tools from Passmark. :)

PassMark DiskCheckup - SMART hard drive monitoring utility - SMART monitor, can keep logs over time and assist with harddisk failure predictions

PassMark Fragger - File Fragmentation Utility - a unique disk/file fragmenter and defragmenter to test I/O performance in various states of fragmentation

OSFClone - Open source utility to create and clone forensic disk images - this is really neat - a disk cloning tool in bootable .iso form which makes perfect sector-to-sector clones including all raw data and unused space, also supports a number of forensic image formats. Also installable to a bootable USB stick

OSFMount - Mount CD and Disk images in Windows, ISO, DD - the companion to OSFClone, this one mounts clone images as virtual drives in Windows, also CD .iso images, and can create RAM disks as well

There's more at PassMark Software - PC Benchmark and Test Software, take a look!

And finally, one of my favorite registry/system cleaning utilities...very thorough and should only be used with good knowledge (this isn't CCleaner, folks) but it did an excellent job on my laptop.

    SlimCleaner - Community-Powered PC Maintenence

I particularly like its built-in cloud feature and the ability to browse online info on every file it finds on your system...also offers a hijack scan to examine startup entries, browser BHOs etc.

    That's all folks :)

    USB Image Tool

I've used this tool for a while now and stores a .img file. Two modes
Device: Complete bit copy (clone) so you can recreate bootable USBs. Need to run as Administrator.
Volume: Stores only the volume/partition info.
I like it mainly for keeping an image of a bootable utility USB that's taken a lot of effort to make.

The best software for the purpose I've come across.

DiscWizard is an older version of Acronis, I've used it for a couple of years now and it's very good.
There is a new version of DiscWizard, newer than the one on Seagates link, at least the last time I checked. Will post it if I can find it again.

There is one for WD, different Acronis version, works well also.

    Thanks mate

Hey thanks Dave only came across this looking for the Seatools for HHD checking - which wouldn't download onto an old XP for some reason.

That site would be a real plus as I tried the official trial of Acronis and well wasn't that keen on it to be honest - a bit fiddly even for an old fiddler like myself

    SnapDraw Free

    SnapDraw Free

This is a nice free screen cap program that provides annotation tools without requiring a lot of reading to figure them out.

Here's one I did in a couple of minutes to document the main form of one of my programs. Balloon thingies with typed in text is accomplished quite easily.

WinMerge - free merge utility for Windows

WinMerge | Free Security & Utilities software downloads at SourceForge.net

Not super intuitive for the newbie. You have to mess with it a bit to get the hang of it. For basic operation like "add lines from file on the right, that aren't already in the file on the left, to the file on the left" you need to use the Merge menu. Usually if you select Next Difference it will fill in the panels at the bottom. Then select Copy to Left and Advance.

Otherwise if you use the toolbar Copy button you tend to get one file just overwriting the other. But it does have Explorer Shell Extension so you can right click on file(s) to get started. Once you get used to it, it's a good tool for the toolbox.
