Programs which require a reboot but doesn't ask for

There are some installers which actually require a reboot as evident from PendingFileRenameOperations entries as in the case of Google Chrome full program files installer but does never asks for a reboot. Is an immediate reboot not required in such cases?

I would bet if it's a rename then it's just using rename to delete on next boot. But if you want to find out for sure I would look or ask on chromium-discuss mailing list. Google chrome is based on chromium. Just about anything going on with chromium you can find out using that avenue. Go to Chromium.org and there should be a link to join chromium-discuss.

Once I got chromium running on my machine I used the win32 zip instead of the installer. Then I uninstalled the old version under Program Files. It's a lot easier to back off new versions of chromium if you save the local user data and put the exe code in a folder not under Program Files. Likewise back up the folder with the exe before overwriting with a new version. You just need to leave a copy of Extensions folder and Dictionaries folder in the folder that will hold the new executable files from the chromium zip. If you don't like the new version or it has a bug, copy the folder contents back while chromium is not open and all the bugs are gone.
