    Windows 7 and program icons

    Hey guys,

When I use to run Windows XP, about 90% of software I installed put a desktop icon in.

I notice installing games recently, the icons either never go on desktop, and the installer never asks if I want one.

I believe this is down to the games no longer asking, however thought I might check if windows 7 does anything around these icons?

To test I installed an older game, Test Drive Unlimited and this asked me if I wanted an icon, however newer games like Battlefield Bad Company 2 and Call of Duty Modern Warefare 2 all don't put icons on desktop :S

Also my Google Earth randomly removes it self once a fortnight, I have to reinstall it each fortnight.

Not sure if there is a question in there? :) You can always right click the main executable in the installation folder and choose Create Shortcut. It will either create one in that folder, you can drag to desktop. Or it will say it will put a shortcut on desktop, proceed. It's usually the application that determines if it will create a desktop shortcut, or start menu shortcut. Some ask, some don't. Seems the same in Windows 7 and XP. A Guy

If you have a shortcut in the "all programs" start menu, just right-click it and choose "send to" then "desktop (create shortcut)".
