Dot Net Framework 2.0 i64 FAIL. Why?

anyone succeed at getting Dot.net framework 2.0 for 64bit Win7 loaded?
it seems to run right to the end of the install and then produce an unrecoverable error "not for machine type"

It failed because you don't have an Intel Itanium based CPU (also known as IA64). For all other x64 based CPU's you need to use this one,

Download details: .NET Framework Version 2.0 Redistributable Package (x64)

P.S. Any particular reason for installing the x64 version of .net 2.0? Unless you have a 64 bit .net 2.0 application, it isn't needed.

the application demanded it. that's all I know.
apparently 3.5 supersedes and includes the handles of 2.0 so its ok. it was a fallacious error message.
