Forefront Client Security works as well, FWIW. But you have to jump through some hoops.

I was running the kaspersky technical preview but deinstalled yesterday after it took almost 3 Hours to do a full scan. I was also disappointed with the resource footprint and interference with apps. Previosly I had trend micro for about 45 mins installed and Panda Security for about 2 hours both were utter rubbish.
Installed ESET SS 4 last night and I am most impressed, Firewall is excellent and the footprint is minimal, on-demand scans are lightning fast and the pro-active stuff doesn´t interfere with working- I think my dollars will be going in that direction when the Trial period runs out!
I recently tried Windows Live Onecare, a friend told me to download it after my PC was acting up and AVG free wasn't finding anything wrong. It immediately picked up a trojan and got rid of it. It has a 90 day trial and so far its been going well on my machine with xp, doesn't hog resources like AVG free did. However its not compatible with windows 7...aroo?
Kaspersky Technical Preview for windows 7....da best
Could not get it to install. The Dell Mini 9 was not listed as tested with this product. But what the heck I thought, The Mini 9 is a netbook. I hope they support it soon.
After trying AVG and having problems with Firefox I decided to try Norton 360. It has a lot of different components. Even after a clean install of Firefox it still is slow loading and sometimes freezes on launch. I don't know if this is a problem with Firefox and virus scanners or not.
I used the backup file feature to a remote HD and it worked fine. I could not get the Internet back-up to work. There was a help module that offered to get me online with a Chat session. I declined for now.
For a Windows newbie like me there seems to be a lot of fine tuning needed by the end user. Right now I'm using the Norton Insight module that supposedly blesses files so that they are identified as trusted and not require repeated scanning.
I may be having some Firewall issues as test uploads and download via SpeedEasy Speed Test are showing me slower figures than my other computer that is a Mac (at one time the Dell Mini 9 was equal to the Mac in speed using this test).
All in all I will probably buy this thing. Does anyone have any longer term use of Norton 360? What do you think of it?
Eset NOD32 Antivirus v4 32-bits works. Flawless.
If you are looking for good free AV's, then I would recommend these:
1. ALWIL Software Avast 4.8 Home Edition Download FREE antivirus software - avast! Home Edition - if you download and torrent alot of stuff (scans P2P files for viruses and stuff)
2. Avira AntiVir Personal Edition Free antivirus - Avira AntiVir - if you dont download or torrent that often.
Both are real nice, but I myself prefer Avast cause it digs way down deep into each extractable file and scans for anything hidden inside, while AntiVir just scans the individual files.
I have a Full subscription to N360 v3.0 on my XP install and am very happy with it, the only reason I don´t use it on my win7 install is that the compatible beta/tryout expires after 14 days, as soon as they release a compatible full version I will be changing to it and not only because I bought a two year subscription.
