SQL server 2005 and Windows 7

Hi, I would like to know if it's possible to run SQL server 2005 Developer edition under Windows 7 x64.

My Vista installation is messed up so I want to try clean install of Windows 7 but I need SQL server 2005 working.

Did you run the installer in a compatibility mode?

Trouble with Sql Server 2005 Surface Area Conf.

I have, finally, installed SSRVER 2005 on my Win 7 machine.

I can not give my user account SysAdmin Privileges

I keep addding them - they do not take

    I have SQL Server Running

I have noticed in some of the docs that told me to go here, That i should be in "SQL Server 2005 User Provisioning Tool for Vista/Windows 7".

Mine only reads "SQL Server 2005......Vista". No windows 7.

not sure if this is the issue. but until i can get SysAdmin I can't see my instance

joshgeake, that link no longer works. I'm also having trouble figuring out how to get SQL 2005 on my machine. I recently got a Windows 7 machine and need SQL Server for accessing a few databases locally. I'd really appreciate any help you may be able to provide.

Thanks, Joshgeake. The link does work now.

I ended up resolving the issue in the meantime. I didn't really care if it was 2005 or 2008 -- but wasn't having luck with either. What ended up helping me was what Nicholas Piasecki says at the very bottom here: SQL Server Express 2008 - Missing Client Tools / Management Studio / Profiler

Basically, I needed to upgrade the Edition before the Client Tools were even available for install. Not very obvious. Once I did that (and I also made sure I had installed any available service packs for SQL Server), management studio was available and I was able to install it.

    Hope this helps someone!
