Good Graphics Program I'm looking to do some computer art and need a good program. I'm specifically interested in creating small graphics, such as for avvies, buttons on forums, symbols, and other things.
Recommendations?
Paid programs are fine, but freeware is always preferable, as long as its decent. =)
Thanks in advance.

Well Paint.NET is ok.
GIMP is also free, has a windows version and quite powerful though somewhat obtuse at times. May be "too much".
Photoshop elements is relatively cheap for an amazingly full featured paint program. (90% of Photoshop at 10%of the price)
Then there is Photoshop. Expensive to start to be sure, but once your in you can update as often or inoften as you want (almost) for a resonable price.
Fore more pure art Painter (now owned by Corell) is really really nice and not horribly expensive. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Scratch built OS Windows 7 x64 Ultimate CPU i7 960 Motherboard Asus P6X58D Memory 12 Gig Corsair Dominator Graphics Card Nvidia 480 Sound Card Maudio Delta 44 + breakout box Monitor(s) Displays Dell UltraSharp U2410 24in and Samsung 21 dual monitors Screen Resolution 1920x1200 and 1280x1024 Keyboard Logitech G15 + N52 game pad Mouse Logitech MX518 PSU Corasair TX850 Case Cooler Master HAF Cooling Corsair H50 Hard Drives Primary: Intel X-25M G2 160G SSD

It has the main purpose of creating windows ICO files, up to and including the Windows 7 specific 256x256 pix ones.
It does however allow the export of files in BMP, JPG, PNG, & GIF formats
An essential Tool IMO for anyone working with windows UI elements, it's compact and free and has some good functionality including the ability to extract existing icons - which is always useful | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Real World Computing (Me + a little help from Acer) OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 + x86 + Windows 8 x64 CPU AMD Phenom II X6 1035T 2.6 GHz Motherboard Aspire M3400 Memory 4Gb PC10600 DDR3 1333 MHz Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce 315 512MB Sound Card OnBoard - Realtek High Definition Audio Monitor(s) Displays Philips 32" HDTV, (HDMI) + 26" TV (VGA) Screen Resolution 1920 x 1080 @60Hz + 1360 x 768 @60Hz Keyboard Microsoft Wireless 800 or Stock Acer, (depends where I sit) Mouse Microsoft Wireless 800 or Stock Acer, (depends where I sit) PSU Stock (400W) Case Acer M3400 Cooling Stock Hard Drives 500 GB Seagate ST3500418AS SATA II
