    downloaded and installed TWICE!!

What happens if I download and install an application TWICE? I am looking at a vendors suggestion. I am having a problem and the vendor suggests that I download and install WINDOWS LIVE MAIL. I think I have it installed already.
1-how can I tell if I have it already?
2-what would happen if I downloaded it and I already have it?

    My OS is Windows 7

If you already have the software installed, when you run the install program it will probably have the option to "Repair" or "Modify".

Now, if you do download a newer version, there is a possibility you can have them both installed at the same time.

A good and easy way to see if you have it installed already would be to go to your control panel -> Programs -> Programs and Features.

This will give you a list of installed programs. Just see if it's installed.

    Hope that helps.

    No, not anymore!

You've updated to Windows Live Essential and this had removed the basic Windows Live Mail version.

Before you could download twice this program, because it was updating only the program software.

It might be the same in the future with Windows Live Essential.

Now I am totally confused. I bought this PC in April 2010. WINDOWS LIVE and its sub programs CALL; MAIL; MESSENGER; PHOTO GALLERY; and WRITER were already installed. I have now been told by a vendor that I must install WINDOWS LIVE MAIL. If I now install WINDOWS LIVE MAIL, will that cause any problem, since I seem to have it already? Many thanks for any help.

When you sign in to windows hotmail and put your password in... before doing that look to the left of that is where you sign in for Windows Live.
I don't use it but to each is their own.

If your computer came with a Manufacturer Recovery console, you should reinstall the WLM properly. This will get rid of the Windows Live Essential to reinstate your Windows Live Mail.

Therefore, i'll far prefer uninstall before the all WLE from "Program & features" then reinstall the Original WLM from the Mfg Recovery Console.

Such programs would never be installed twice. If they already exist, they are updated or the installer goes on the next subprogram to be installed.

If you want to know what is installed, you can go to "add/remove programs" in control panel, try to modify "Windows Live Essentials" and then see which components are already installed.

    Hope I helped...
