Windows 7: CDBurnerXP x64 can't see my DVD drive

CDBurnerXP x64 can't see my DVD drive

I'm not sure if this is a software or hardware problem, but here goes...

I picked up a new motherboard last week (ASUS M4A79XTD EVO), and since then CDBurnerXP refuses to see my DVD drive. I'm using AHCI, just like I did with the old board, and there was no problem with it, but with the new ASUS, no way. The drive itself works fine under Windows.

It's my favorite burning program for data disks, and I've tried all of the suggestions on the CDBurnerXP website with no luck. Any ideas besides malware like Nero?

Thx

Is there any kind of helper app to go with your board's chipset? For example, on one of my systems that uses an Intel chipset, I've had to load the Storage Matrix Manager to get CDBurnerXP to recognize an SATA burner.

If you can't get CDBurnerXP to go then I'd recommend Imgburn for data and video discs, and Burrrn Portable for audio CDs.

btw they both work for me on both Vista64 and Windows 7 32 bit.

CDBurnerXP doesn't work if AHCI is enabled. This is well known.

It worked fine with the old motherboard, and AHCI was enabled.

I was going to add the RAID drivers like you suggested, but it now works for me, not the way I expected. My new motherboard has a way to set two of the SATA ports to standard IDE mode and leave the other four at AHCI. I set them to IDE and moved the DVD cable to one of those ports, and presto! CDBurnerXP now sees the drive.

I have no idea why it worked on the old Foxconn, but I'll take what I can get.

Thanks for the responses guys.

Ah, I see. I need the Intel Matrix Storage Manager drivers. I will install and give those a shot then!

Edit- Yep, tested it and it works. I checked the CDBurnerXP FAQ and it even states to install the Intel drivers: http://cdburnerxp.se/help/Appendices/troubleshooting

I had the same issue with both my optical sata drives not showing in CDBurnerXP. So I installed the Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver and it now works. I suspect this is what OP will need to do.

Yeah, for an AMD rig, they say to install the AHCI/RAID drivers, but I haven't yet with this new board. I was able to get it working by setting two of the ports to standard IDE.

I may install the drivers, though, because the hot swap is a little goofy with this board. I have no option to eject the drive anymore. I'm still tweaking it here and there and getting the kinks out. Best part of a new build, right?
