    HDMI Audio (ATI HD 3400)

I finished upgrading to Windows 7(32bit) but no audio coming out from the HDMI TV. I was using Vista(32bit) without any audio over HDMI problems. I have made sure that I have the latest ATI Catalyst Control Center but my System Tray was indicating that no audio device was connected at all, which was almost true (except for the HDMI to the TV.) After Google-ing and reading several threads, I decided to use the only driver version that worked under Vista(32bit), ATI Catalyst Version 8.2 for Vista. Voila! It worked!

How did you get it to work!

    Hey Dude...
I have the same problem like everyone else, I have just upgraded to Win 7(32 bit) was on Vista(32bit) previously but I never encountered the problem as I was using an AMP for my sound so used audio leads.

I have a LCD Samsung (as my default monitor with no other monitor) which i have connected through HDMI cable, the picture is great the sound is no there! I have the ATI HD 3400 like you, and i was up all night installing about a million drivers from various posts and none of them have worked!

If i right click on sounds on the bottom right hand corner and click on playback devices i can see (1) speakers 2x HD audio device & (2) Digital Video (HDMI) and it says not plugged in! if i right click to set as default that option is greyed out!

you said you installed the vista one, did you uninstall the previous driver first? did you have to do anything else?

    thank you

    RE: My Attempts

    DynamicD:

For your information, under Vista, I was able to have sound over HDMI with the Catalyst 8.2 already. However, after upgrading to Windows 7-32 bit with (i.e., included in Windows 7 drivers) ATI drivers or ATI V9.11, I cannot get the same result. I uninstalled the new drivers and re-installed the Catalyst 8.2 driver. It worked for 1 day and an intermittent problem cropped up. What I did was I reinstalled the ATI 8.2 driver with "custom mode" with only basic driver with no System Tray ATI Catalyst or Steam software at all. It started to work again more reliably. *Yes, I am familiar with that icon indicating the device was not plugged in. Some folks have mentioned that you might right click to enable it. I am not sure. Note: I typically don't connect my PC over HDMI all the time. Only when I want to watch Blu Ray or some other online resources. I know I have to play around with the driver setting to get my Samsung LN40B610 40" TV to work with the ATI. The 8.2 driver always the one that works! Good luck!
