media player uninstall or repair?

Hi, I have developed a fault with media player. Is it possible to uninstall and then reinstall, or even repair it?
I have been told that even though it is part of the operating system it is still possible to do both but I can't find it listed in add or remove programs.
I have windows 7 home premium installed.

Any help would be appreciated, Thanks!
