Sound Very Loud With Headphones On Windows 7 RC

I have volume set around 8% and for some reason it is way louder than on Vista. On Vista I usually have it around 22% when I use headphones. On Windows 7 RC it's extreme loud when I set it to 22%. Anyway to fix this? I tried everything in the sound properties.

I have the same problem. Think the scale is ridiculous, because everything I will ever need is between 0-20%. Even 10% can be too loud at times.

Edit: My soundcard is Creative X-fi XtremeMusic. XP there was two sliders for volume (wave and normal) and that way it was fine in that. But 7 only has one slider.

It's because the WAVE Volume on your Vista/XP was probably quite low, (not the main volume control) and with Windows 7, it makes WAVE volumes always be at 100% so 10% is like 20%+ on Vista/XP.

Yeah I figured. It's better that they have only one slider really, but the scale is all wrong.

    Headphones

I have the same problem with headphone volume. I have a creative audigy sound card. I have to have the volume set to 1 for it to be bearable. I have been poking around in the settings and online for a solution, but so far I have not had much luck.

I also have the same problem. I found a registry tweak for Win XP for this issue, but the same keys do not exist in Win7. I just bought some 5.1 "Mentor" headphones which has made it a little worse, since they are a bit louder and there is no volume adjustment on the cord like my old ones. If I put the volume any higher than 4, my ears would probably bleed and the neighbor's dog would start barking. At level 10 I might blow the speakers or the windows.
