REALTEK HD AUDIO will NOT install

Ever since I upgraded from vista to windows 7 about 8 months ago, realtek drivers have never worked for me. I have downloaded their latest drivers time and time agin, and un installed, installed multiple times for each new downloaded driver.

It will tell me to restart my system but after i reboot, there is NO REALTEK anything in my device managers or sound options. BUT i am able to UN INSTALL from add/remove programs. WHAT AM I MISSING OR DOING WRONG? please help

    I have a ATHLON X2 DUAL CORE QL-65 PROCESSOR
    64- bit operating system

Are you sure you have a RealTek sound card? Can you provide the exact model number of the computer? If it is not RealTek, someone here will find the right drivers for you.

What is the model number of your Gateway laptop, are you 100% sure it has a Realtek audio chip? Realtek is not a generic driver, they're the hardware/audio chip manufacturer. Not all computers use the same hardware.

If it is Realtek hardware, try installing the drivers twice.
Install once, reboot then install again.

thanks for the quick responses. well the product id is 00359-0EM-8882475-61005
and Im not sure if its the generic driver. I have conextant on here on here by default. But it worked with vista b4 i upgraded so i would imagine it would work with 7 too rite? i just want an alternative to conextant because it doesnt sound good to me in comparisonto when i did have realtek.

OH WAIT, FOUND THE MODEL NUMBER. MS2274

If you have a "Connextant" audio chip now, you can't install a RealTek or IDT sound driver. As noted they are hardware specific.

I'm looking high and low, but for the life of me I can not find where Gateway ever had a MS series. Is there any other number on the computer that might might be model number.

One more question, which I should have asked in my first post. Do you have 32-bit or 64-bit Windows 7? If you are unsure, right click Computer in the start menu, and click properties. It will be listed under System.
