built in speakers / headphone issues

    Hi all

I'm currently using a HP Pavilion dv4-1433us laptop.

The problem I'm having is this:

When I have my 'Default Device' (under Sounds >> Playback) set to Independent Dual Headphones, I get perfect sound from Headphones / Exterior speakers, but the second I disconnect all exterior sound devices, my built in speakers do not play any sound.

When I have my 'Default Device' set to Speakers and Dual Headphones, I only get sound from my built in speakers, even when I have headphones plugged in.

I did not used to have this issue, the built in speakers used to play perfectly, and the headphones would play the second I connected them. I believe this started after I downloaded a patch for IDT High Definition Audio CODEC. I'm not that knowledgeable on computers so I haven't figured out how to fix this.

    thanks.

IDK... the built in speakers used to play when I disconnect the headphones. But now they won't play any sound. The only way I can get them to play sound is if I switch default device to Speakers and Dual Headphones, but then my headphones won't play sound.

    Example:

If the default is set to Dual Headphones and Extenal Device....it wont play thru your laptop speakers. Only play thru your headphones or if u hook it up to ur stereos line input.....it will play.

But if you set the default to Internal Speakers....then it will play thru your laptop speakers AND your headphones if you plug them in. So you sound about right.

Yes....set it to speakers. Click Control Panel.....Hardware and Sound.....Sound. When that box pops up......set it to speakers. It should play thru ur speakers...AND thru your headphones when u plug then in.

i did that and now i'm getting sound from my internal speakers and my headphones simultaneously. i'm trying to figure out a setting where it only plays from the headphones when they are plugged in, and it plays from the internal speakers the second i unplug the headphones. it used to be like this when the laptop was new, but then i installed some idt high def audio codec driver and it got all screwed up.

When you plug the headphones in...you shouldnt hear the sound coming from your laptop anymore. If you still do....wow..ive never heard of this ever. Thats if you have it set to speakers. It will only play thru the speakers when you have nothing else plugged into the headphone jack of the computer.

When that box pops up....click where it says speakers....another box will pop up...ant the bottom..it will say......use this device.....set it to that....click apply. And you should be good to go dude. Ive never experience a laptop speaker still playing AFTER i connect a headphone to it.
