Winamp new version Cant get rid of Browser Window

Hi all

It seems Winamp is going the way of NERO --originally a fantastic program at what it did but so much extra bloat being added on it's driving me crazy.

The old version had a nice clean interface when you played music -- the latest version insits on having a BROWSER window open even if you uncheck all the boxes -- Grrrrrr!!!!

It seems to be OK when you actually haven't opened a browser but most people usually have a browser session somewhere going in the background.

Short of going back to the previous version anybody got a fix.

I still like Winamp for ripping as it gets its CD data from GRACENOTE rather than FREEDB. Gracenote is far more accurate especially for Classical Music.

Sometimes stuff needs to be left alone -- I'm still using NERO 7 (works fine on W7 --all later versions are just BLOAT). I hope winamp isn't going the same way.

Cheers
jimbo

MK2

Hi,

I read this on the Winamp forum, maybe it will work: go to Options> Notifications> & UnMark: open now playing on click

Maybe another option is to use a different skin that won't open the browser automatically or doesn't have the browser at all.

I myself use the KameleonDUI skin, it's highly customizable and you can choose wich windows it will display in it's main window.

You can find KameleonDUI on Skinconsortium: Free Download - KameleonDUI - Skin Consortium
They have a lot of nice Winamp skins.

Hi there
If only it were that simple -- the X doesn't do anything on my version and the browser tab won't close.

I've gone back to the previous version as a decent fix.

As I originally said a lot of apps start out just fine -- and then have so many "extra features" on them that aren't really wanted that the programs become unuasable or bloated.

For example for simply burning DVD and CD's and making bootable ISO's who uses NERO 10 anymore --ovehyped over priced and overbloated. Versions 6 and 7 were probably the best Nero had --now I can't be bothered.

Even Photoshop is beginning to get a bit overloaded -- but this is probably an exception to the rule as the extra features (once you've learned them) really ARE OK but most other applications -- usually newer versions aren't as good after the application reaches a development peak.

Another example is in the area of email clients -- for very simple uses there was NOTHING wrong with Outlook Express -- lots of people don't need all the task managers, calendars, facebook integration etc provided by Outlook 2010 or other email clients.

So if you are a Software developer - by all means add on stuff if you want to but PLEASE keep the SIMPLE LITE versions available or allow people to CHOOSE whether they want to have all the extra stuff when they install a new version.

Cheers
