Is 3D Soundback supposed to work?

Tried 3D Soundback Beta with Win7 64 Bit.

Installed it and set it to run in Vista SP2 compatibility mode as an adminsitrator.

Add STALKER: SOC as a game entry (STEAM Install) and enabled it.

STALKER SOC will not start when enabled in 3D Soundback. Does fine when NOT enabled in 3D Soundback.

    Is it supposed to work?

As I understand it 3D Soundback is supposed to work the same as Creative's Alchemy,

    Home - ALchemy

and is only needed for DirectSound/DirectSound3D games. If it is supposed to work the same then it isn't needed for that game as it uses OpenAL for its sound,

Games - S.T.A.L.K.E.R Shadow of Chernobyl

which on Realtek audio will use the OpenAL software renderer unlike on Creative cards that support it (not the X-Fi Xtreme Audio or any of the Audigy SE/LE variants), which will do it hardware on the sound card.

Probably why the game won't work with it enabled.

If you can't get 3D soundback to run, you must run it as an administrator in windows vista compatibility mode. That's how I got the configurator to run.
Now I can play Halo Combat Evolved and the EAX option is no longer disabled.
And don't tell me about Necros, because this page is one of the first google links if you search for "3d soundback won't run"
