Audio not working for HP zv5000

Audio not working for HP zv5000
I have an standard HP Pavillion zv5000 running Windows 7 Pro 32bit (which is not standard, as HP only supports XP) and the audio is not working.

The audio component is Realtek AC'97 Audio and the driver appears to be up-to-date. Microsoft Fix-It suggests and has tried re-installing it, but that has not worked.

I have run the obligatory SFC /scannow without finding any errors.

I just get the X on the sound control and the ! in the Device Manger where it reports:
This device cannot start. (Code 10)

The currently installed version of the driver is v6.0.1.6305 and dated 6/19/2009
which Windows thinks is up to date.

Disabling and re-enabling also do not work.

Uninstalling and re-installing also do not work.

    Any ideas for a solution?

    Thx.

You can't run Realtek audio driver because your computer have ADI(AD1981) Soundmax ac97 codec!

You're right. And sadly, I cannot find a Windows 7 driver for it.
