No drivers for SoundMax AD1888.

I followed your instructions and in fact the soundmax icon is already present in the taskbar tray. However, there is still no sound. My motherboard is P5PE-VM.

Any suggestions on how to address this?

i have also Soundmax Drivers running in all Win 7 Versions:

i inserted the CD, set the Compatibility Mode to Windows XP SP3, and installed the Drivers without any Problems ....

i have K8VMX motherboard...
soundmax gets installed ( windows xp compatibility), the icon shows up in taskbar...but no sound...

dont know whats going wrong..
anyone has got any suggestions or alternative hacks ?

also can someone upload the "smwdm.sys file" from the earlier version of driver...am not able to find that file....so have not been able to try that workaround...

I am running win7 7022 x86 with asus k8v se deluxe mobo.

I tried those steps and I get the "driver not found! reboot you system......" error. Any ideas? I don't see a work around for that part of the issue. Im willing to switch to a different build if I need to.


The only difference in my settings and the tutorial is that im using windows xp sp2 compatibility, SP3 doesn't exist.

I have an Asus A8S-X motherboard which has an onboard SoundMax sound chip

After reading suggestions that we should run in Windows XP compatible mode here is how I've gone about installing sound on Windows 7:

Insert the Driver CD which came with your Motherboard
Navigate to the Drivers Directory > select Audio > Select the AsusSetup.exe program; Right Click on the Program > Navigate to the Properties > looking for the Menu Bar "Compatibility" and Tick "Run this program in compatibility mode for: "Windows XP (Service Pack 3) Click OK.
After doing so Click on the AsusSetup to run it

That should do it, just sit back and wait for the Sound Icon to appear on the Menu Bar

No need to restart Windows

You should already have sound, check you speakers or headphone connections from Front or or Rear connections. If you have your Windows XP (I installed Win & in a separate HD) go back to it and see if you still have sound
