Crackle using Itunes, Media Player but not Youtube/Iplayer

I've recently upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 7 Ultimate, no problem with audio or anything previously on XP.

My problem is that youtube, bbc iplayer all stream with no problem to audio and video. I have however noticed that whilst playing Youtube, If I open up more browser windows etc, then it begins to lag and crackle much like Itunes. Mine only seem to occur when using Itunes, Media Player, VLC etc.

I wonder if it's just the case of me needing a new soundcard (one that's definately compatible with Windows 7) or more RAM to run more programs, processes.

I've updated my drivers for wireless network and soundcard but no change. Settings are all correct. I receive sound but it's crackled. Tried speakers on another pc and no problems with them either. I wonder if there might be a problem with my BIOS? It's never been updated. I'm unsure as I am a complete novice!

My Specs are
