Windows 7: Can't open sound control panel

Can't open sound control panel

When I right-click the speaker icon in the system tray and choose Playback, Recording, or Sounds nothing happens. I usually use this function often as I use a USB headset at times and to adjust the Line In volume (for my Xbox 360). I can't recall my changing anything recently that would have caused this. I have tried updating the Realtek drivers, but I'm not entirely sure which ones I should be downloading. but I suspect there may be a different issue.

In many cases where something has worked and all of a sudden does not work, using the System Restore function and restoring the PC back to a date when it did work will fix these types of problems. System Restore MAY take care of this problem, too. System Restore can be accessed from Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools.

System Restore will not delete any user data or e-mails.
