Windows 7 start up sound/login sound

Hi, iv just installed a fresh copy of windows 7 ultimate, and iv noticed something strange with the startup/welcome sound.

The sound that windows plays to welcome you to the desktop seesm to execute before I even type my password in, and when I do type my password in, it plays the sound when you'v locked your PC and to log back in, its that same one.

Is this the same on your PC's? Has it been desgined to play like this?

TIA.

Hello John,

In the Sound scheme settings, you actually have 3 different sounds for this. One is the Windows Startup sound, Windows Logoff sound, and the other is the Windows Logon sound. You can change or turn them off.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Thanks but what I want to know is the sound that first appears when you log into windows from a cold boot .... does that execute straight away at the password prompt or only after you type in the password on a default configuration of windows 7?

TIA

It plays the "Welcome" sound straight away for me, then the "Windows logon" C:\Windows\Media\Windows Logon Sound.wav sound right after logging in.

So just for clarifcation, it plays the welcome sound straight away at the password prompt? Then when you type in your password and login in it plays the C:\Windows\Media\Windows Logon Sound.wav correct?

Yes, the welcome sound plays when the logon screen shows up, and the logon sound when I enter my password and the desktop shows up.
