Windows 7 P5B-E audio problems

Hello, everyone. I've upgraded to Windows 7 from XP.

However, like many people, I've had problems recording

audio when using Windows 7. I can't even record from

the "Line In" on the back

of my PC. The "Microphone" only works for the Speech

Recognition setup. When I used XP, Soundmax (which

came with the motherboard disc) was the default audio

driver and I had no problems.

I tried the "uninstall driver" from the Device Manager to

remove the default

audio driver that W7 installs. However when I reboot, it

automatically reinstalls itself. I've tried installing more recent

Soundmax

drivers (Vista and Xp versions) but W7 keeps the default

driver and the Soundmax driver and still can't record any

input. So for now, I'm using my Asus p5b-e motherboard

with onboard audio default sound driver. Audio playback through SPDIF is no problem with the automatic default driver though.



Trying to record with Audacity or Sound Recorder results in silence.


I tried disabling "Windows Update" (and the "digital signature" after the PC posts) but that didn't work
Is there anyway to totally remove the default audio driver and stop W7 from automatically reinstalling the sound driver on reboot?. Maybe then I can retry the Soundmax driver. I attached some pics. Maybe they'll be of some use. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

SoundMAX drivers are typically a joke. Oddly enough, you could try removing them entirely and using the WDDM1.1 drivers from Microsoft. I used them initially and didn't have any problems with them. My board is a little different but it was a hassle, nonetheless.

It would be helpful if you fill out your sys specs in your profile. As for removing the SM drivers, try the Add/Remove, it seems to work well. Once you reboot allow it to look online for new device drivers.

Thank you for your response, Captain Zero. Regarding WDDM (correct me if I'm wrong)isn't that related to video? I don't have a problem with my GPU. At this point, the SoundMAX drivers are removed from my system and W7 has surely gone looking for new device drivers and reinstalled it. Interestingly enough, even when I disconnect from my network to prevent W7 from putting the default driver back, it's still able to do so. Audio playback from SPDIF output is fine but recording audio input remains a problem. If anyone else has any input/suggestions, I'm all ears. I hope they come up with something to resolve this recording issue.
