Audio in Win7 is not working

Hi all!
Stumbled across this forum in search of a solution to my recent audio problem. People seem very helpful so i thought i might give it a try.

My issues started when i upgraded from Vista to Win 7. And the audio just does not work. I have tried everything i can think of and i have not gotten a single eligable word out of my speakers. All i get is static and hints of it trying to "say" something.

I have tried updating my bios, installing every kind of driver to my onboard Realtek audio device. Both via Windows, Realtek server and Original MB cd. Have also tried various fixes that people has recommended to others with similar problems.

Also in my Realtek audio manager my back panel and front panel is greyed out. Only the digital out/in is visible. And my speakers are not detected allthough they work 100%. Somewhere it was recommended to "disable front panel detection" And that got my speakers and front panel detected but neither work.

Hopefully someone here can help, would be very grateful since i cant play Fallout: New vegas with no sound

You said you tried every kind of driver...just to make sure, you grabbed the right one...
According to Gigabyte the 64-Bit Driver (Realtec Function for Realtec Azalia Chip) for the board in your specs would be

In the mean time I would check the Device manager for any yellow or red triangles.

Thanks and hi Sledge.
I DL the driver u linked and it did not do any difference. I have tried that one before as well but with no success. Is it possible to download other drivers for my sound? Read somewhere about someone using Sigmatel audio drivers and that solved the problem. But i dont know if i can use thoose drivers for my onboard Realtek card?

In the device manager there are no yellow or red triangles of any kind. No matter what ive tried Realtek audio manager wont detect anything but my digital output/input. So i cant set my speakers to default or anything.

Correction to when i say i upgraded from Vista to Win7 in my first post. I did a clean install and many of them.

No, you can't just load any audio driver. Drivers are written specifically for the hardware.

I know you had audio in Vista so this next request may seem a bit odd, get into the BIOS and check the audio settings... if onboard audio is set to AUTO, change it to Enabled.

You've downloaded the latest Realtek drivers, it used to be the first install removed the old drivers then the same drivers had to be installed a second time.
I haven't updated for several versions because all is working well so I'm not sure about the double install.

I have been in the bios and checked if there is any relevant audio settings. All i found was Azalia codec and the options are Auto or disabled. And i have tried both.

About the drivers u think i should install them once more? I'll give it a go and see what happens.

Did the driver double install but it didn't do the trick. Still the same problem. Realtek audio manager cant detect my speakers and i have no sound. Only thing to make my speakers detected is to "disable front panel jack detection"
But that still doesnt get me any sound from either the front or back panel

Ok, what jack are you plugging the speakers into, are these stereo speakers?

They should plug into the light green jack in the back of the computer.

Of course, you will never get audio from the digital output, unless you have a DA converter connected.

Also, for now, go into Device manager and disable the ATI HDMI Audio Device.
Don't remove it, just disable and reboot.

I have a 4.1 system with 2 speakers connected to the light green jack and 2 in the dark gray, think its called rear speakers. And its connected to the back panel. The physical configuration should be correct since i have not changed it since it worked fine.

Will disable the ATI thing and get back to you

Have rebooted now and the speakers are still not detected or giving of any other sound than static and crackling.

Don't know if I can be much more, if any help.

If you right click on the MS speaker icon in the task bar and select Recording Devices, what to you see, what is the Default recording device? If it is a digital input, try setting something else as Default input, Line In, Stereo Mix or Mic will do.

To set default select the device and then use the button lower right.

Ok, i really appreciate the help you're giving me though. You know a hell lot more about audio than i do.

In recording devices its strange. the microphone seems to pick up something. which is weird since i dont have it plugged in.

This is when i set stereo mix as default, same thing there.

OK, not good, have you gone through Control Panel/Programs and Features and removed all installed audio drivers? There may be more than one depending on what drivers you've tried to install. Looks like a direct conflict of some sort. Do you have any cards in the PC slots, besides graphics of course.

Also, for now try only a stereo setup with speakers plugged into the green jack only.

The only driver i have installed that shows up in programs and features is the Realtek High definition audio driver.
If i Run driver sweeper this is what i see.

Is it not strange that there is a creative sound drivers? These are the driver files i see when i select both realtek and creative.

Should i maybe try to remove the creative driver and see what happens?

And i dont have any other cards in my computer besides graphics. When u say a stereo setup of my speakers u mean the "configure" button in "playback devices"? Because i did that with only the green jack connected and still nothing.

Could you also try running dxdiag - go to start menu>start menu search box> type in dxdiag and wait for the output?
Use the sniping tool to post a pic of your sound tab (maybe multiple so please post snips of each) and upload to this thread

And i saw a setting to so the same thing in 64 bit, dunno if there is any difference but there they come aswell.

Try uninstalling the creative drivers - be sure to set a system restore point before proceeding with the uninstall
