    Welcome to SF!

I suggest a system restore to get to a point before the troubles began.

Let me get this right: at first, the mic would only pick up noise. Now, it won't pick up anything at all. Is that correct?

Try uninstalling the drivers in Device Manager, and then installing these ones: Realtek

Also, download Ubuntu, and burn it to a CD, as per the instructions for a Live CD.

    Download | Ubuntu

Try to record something. If it doesn't work, you may have a hardware problem.

If it is indeed a hardware problem, you can send it to Acer, if it's still under warranty. Otherwise, you'll need to take it to the local PC shop.
