    No 5.1 sound Soundmax/AC'97

    Hi,
I have just installed W7 and it have gone quite well apart from the sound. I have no surround sound, only the front speakers are working. It works fine with XP though. Ive installed the same Software as I did with XP too. The motherboard is an ECS GS7610 Ultra With
    6-Channel Audio
Onboard 6-channel audio CODEC supports uncompromising DVD audio quality, bringing a move vivid sound experience and high-quality 6-channel audio without having to buy advanced sound cards

    º ADI AD1888 6-channel audio CODEC
    º Compliant with AC'97 2.3 specification

Ive used the XP drivers and Soundmax software doing the following too

    1. Remove previous sound drivers you have on your computer
    2. Restart your computer after you are done installing
    3. Go to your Windows Update settings and disable both automatic download and install
    4. Navigate your browser to ECS website and search for your motherboard type to get the drivers
    5. Download SoundMax drivers for Windows XP Once it is downloaded, unpack the file with your favorite ZIP uncompressor
    6. Click on setup.exe but don’t run it
    7. Right click on the setup.exe and go to Properties
    8. Set it as Windows XP compatible
    9. Run the setup.exe to install the sound drivers on your computer
    10. Once it is done, restart your machine
